Girls, boys track season begins

March 23, 2022

The 2022 IHS track and field season began with an indoor meet at the Barnett Center in Aberdeen. And NSU will host another indoor meet there on March 29.

The first outdoor meet is scheduled for April 5 in Ipswich, weather permitting.

The Tigers, led by head coach Todd Thorson, definitely have some impressive numbers in both the girls and boys 7-12 rosters this season. But the girls are quite young with Emily De Raad their lone senior. The boys will feature no fewer than eight senior leaders. They are Ty Kadlec, Carson Gohl, Zach Reuschlein, Zach Geditz, Lance Parks, Taylor Thorson, Jordan Nierman and Trevor Beyers.

The boys will count on seven juniors for more upper-class leadership. They are Carter Geditz, Ian Beyers, Tyler Hettich, Turner Thorson, Colby Sylte, Darrel Yost and Austin Rawden.

The IHS girls can obtain additional upper-class leadership, with juniors Ashlyn Weig, Ashley Ptacek, Gracie Lange, Quincy Olivier, Vanessa Diaz, Baylee Kulesa, Kaitlyn Williams and Madison Geditz.

The IHS girls will have just one sophomore girl on their roster, though, in the person of Karlie Gohl.

Their freshmen are Ashlinn Hartwell, Reaghan Bowers, Sommer DeRaad, Kathryn Kilber and Jayda Gisi.

The eighth-grade girls are Gabby Wald, Marley Guthmiller, Gracyn Kadlec, Madisyn Gellhaus, Josie Knutson, Natalie Crissman, Brianna Geditz, Darby Yost, Ava Davis, Charli Rawden, Karlie Weisser and Praise Lange.

The seventh-grade newcomers on the girls' side will be Jalyssa Hutson, Anna Nierman, Bella Unser, Tristan Geditz and Lyndsey Mehlberg.

Getting back to the boys, there will be five sophomores — Trevor Heinz, Xavier Kadlec, Dylan Wald, Cayden Geier and Adam Kanable.

The ninth-grade boys are Maxwell Kulesa, Hayden Crissman, Rasmus Loken and Marcus Hofer.

There are 14 eighth-grade boys, Jackson Holt, Kyle Hettich, Casey Geditz, Joshua Rausch, Matthew Severson, Kingston Sylte, Nate Bass, Kayden Weig, Mac Heinz, Ty Bauer, Brody Davis, Gunnar Knittel, Tye Pietz and Dominic Hofer. The seventh-grade boys will be Clayton Horst, Lane Braun and Tyler Gellhaus.

The State B is scheduled for May 27-28 in Sioux Falls preceded by the regionals on May 19 in Gettysburg. Other highlights will be a pair of home meets on April 23 and May 10 (the LRC).
