Busy week for IHS Golfers

Ipswich had a busy schedule of high school golf, starting with a Bowdle junior varsity/middle school golf meet.

Their JV event was won by Jacob Bakken of Ipswich at 50, followed by Noah Preszler of Bowdle with a 56, then Trent Beyers of Edmunds Central at 58 and Brooks Osborne of Ipswich at 62.

The middle-school outcome was won by Hayden Schlosser of Ipswich at 49, then came Sam Bass of Ipswich at 50 and Cade Beitelspacher of Bowdle with his 53. Eric Rueb of Herreid had a 60. Then were Chase Bukaske of Edmunds Central at 61, Tyson Schumacher of Herreid at 65, Gavin Meidinger of Herreid at 76, Levi Beadle of Bowdle at 79 and Waylen Sprague of Bowdle at 84.

Ipswich also attended a James Valley Christian varsity meet on May 17 in Huron. The Tiger boys' varsity actually tied DeSmet 247-247, but DeSmet was awarded the title on tie-breaking criteria.

Ipswich featured the medalist that day, Luke Peterson with his 76, while Kalen Garry of DeSmet was next also at 76. Things were that close!

Ipswich's second scorer would become Chet Peterson in fourth with his 82, followed by Jace Konsor in 13th with a 89. Tucker Kadlec had a 100 for 31st-place followed by Trevor Larson in 32nd at 101.

Deubrook would defeat Howard 292 to 315 for the girls' team honors. That was enabled by their first-place golfer Bailey Landmark at 92 and her Deubrook teammate Abby Olson was second with a 48.

Then on May 19 Ipswich would host its own meet at Split Rock. The Tiger boys' won the team title 122 to 143 over Potter County, thanks in part to Luke Peterson's winning 36 to 42 margin over Tray Hettick of Selby Area. Ipswich's next scorer would become Jace Konsor in third at 43, followed closely by Chet Peterson in fourth at 43. Tucker Kadlec placed seventh at 46. And Trevor Larson was 16th with his 52.

Meanwhile Ipswich's Rylee Kleffman would place 14th with her 68. This was won by Neva Mikkelsen in first with a 50 followed by Olivia Mikkelsen both of Potter County. So the Battlers would live up to their name with a narrow 162 to 165 win over Selby Area.

The regionals were scheduled for May 23 in Pierre.
