Cross Country coach Todd Thorson speaks with the team at the end of recent practice.

Ipswich will begin its 2022 high school cross country campaign under coach Todd Thorson on August 26 in Pierre.

Then their home invite on September 10 should be one of the highlights this year. It will start at 10 a.m. at Split Rock. Another tournament will also be hosted by Ipswich at Split Rock and that will be the LRC invite on October 5. And that event can be very competitive!

The Tigers will be prepping for their regional run which is scheduled on October 12 in Webster. Yes, Webster! Ipswich has indeed been moved into Region 1B this season. The state is planned for October 22 in Huron.

The Tigers are quite young with Hailey Usselman a junior girl. There are three freshmen, Ava Davis, Madisyn Gellhaus and Gracyn Kadlec. Bella Unser is an eighth grader and Aubree DeRaad a seventh-grade newcomer. There are some sixth-grade girls not eligible for varsity and they include Aubrey Crissman, Olivia Kadlec, Sophia Knittel and Darcy Yost.

The IHS boys, meanwhile, will be led by senior Turner Thorson and juniors Xavier Kadlec and Dylan Wald. Tye Pietz is a ninth-grade boy. Tyler Gellhaus and Clayton Horst are eighth graders and Jace Stiles a seventh grader. Not eligible for varsity are six-graders Gavin Horst, Benjamin Hoyle, Jasper Opsahl, Edison Unser and Ethan Wald.
