IHS boys 4th at Redfield Cross Country event

Ipswich, coached by Todd Thorson, attended a High School cross country event during a very warm day in Redfield last Thursday.

The IHS girls entered two competitors in the varsity division led by Gracyn Kadlec 19th in 21:29.03 and Madisyn Gellhaus 41st in 23:43.56. It was won by Heidi Olson of Mobridge-Pollock in 18:48.05 with Halle Bauer of Great Plains in second at 18:55.68. There were a total of 61 entrants. And Potter County topped Frederick Area 21-28 for their team title.

There were three IHS varsity boys who were able to combine for fourth place in the team standings with 48 points that day, namely Turner Thorson who was 11th in 18:17.06, Xavier Kadlec 18th in 18:41.29 and Dylan Wald 38th in 19:49.06. The meet was won by Pierce Baumberger of Miller in 16:38.35 with Ricky Berndt second from Deuel in 16:49.68 among a total of 87 runners. And Miller won the boys' team title 21 to 25 over Frederick Area.

The girls' JV event was well attended with a total of 61 runners. They included Aubree DeRaad in third at 12:46.57. Next were Ava Davis in 21st at 14:53.56 and Bella Unser 28th in 15:13.53 and Hailey Usselman 54th at 18:28.70. It was won by a pair of Clark/Willow Lake runners, Kamryn Nesheim in 12:22.85 and Emma Bochek second in 12:34.96.

The boys' JV event featured even more runners, led by Ipswich's Tye Pietz in 12:29.22 for 23rd-place. Tyler Gellhaus was 27th in 12:54.51, Jace Stiles 41st in 13:35.45 and Clayton Horst 56th in 14:30.17. It was swept by four Standing Rock runners.

Now for JH newcomers! Sophie Knittel entered that and placed third at 8:20.73. Aubree Crissman was seventh in 8:31.80, Olivia Kadlec 34th in 10:02.79 and Darcy Yost 44th in 12:32.06.

Ethan Wald was seventh among the JH boys, clocked at 7:42.84. Gavin Horst was 31st in 9:01.15, Benjamin Hoyle 32nd in 9:01.48, Edison Unser 35th in 9:15.19 and Jasper Opsahl 45th in 11:27.25.

Ipswich will host a meet on Saturday, Sept. 10 starting at 10 a.m.
