Edmunds County to host ETHICS SD program for 4H members on trapping

ETHICS SD is a program designed to teach 4-H’ers about the history of trapping, ecology of fur bearers, proper harvest and processing techniques, and outdoor skills.
Edmunds County is one of the counties chosen to host this program this fall and next spring. The program will kick off on Monday, October 10 at 6 p.m. at the 4-H Building in Ipswich. It is open to youth ages 11-18. Youth must be enrolled in 4-H to participate.
They will meet four times this fall for two hours each session for hands- on learning. Members are expected to attend all sessions to learn the skills needed to trap on their own over the winter months. Traps will be provided to harvest fur bearers.
All traps will have to be returned in April for others to use the next trapping season. Members also can display tanned hides at the state fair and be eligible for scholarships provided by the state trappers association.

The program is a collaboration between South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks, South Dakota Trappers Association, and South Dakota 4-H.
