Tigers stop Thunder in volleyball action

Ipswich traveled to Bowdle in Lake Region Conference high school volleyball action last Monday vs. North Central. But the visiting team would escape with a straight-sets 3-0 win.

The Tigers indeed won set one 25-16 and set two 25-15. But the third and deciding set was somewhat closer, 25-19, favoring the visitors.

The hosts were 50 of 73 at the net with 15 kills; Ipswich, 73 of 81 hitting attempts that featured 28 kills. Natalie Bieber led NC at the net with a 12 of 19 effort with five kills, followed by Billie Jo Hoffman 12-21 with two kills. The Tigers were led by Gracie Lange 27 of 29 with 10 kills followed by Baylee Kulesa, 17-19, including seven kills.

The Tigers finished 70-72 in setting attempts with 21 assists and were led by Quincy Olivier 39-40 with 11 assists and Reaghan Bowers 24-25, 8. The hosts were 90 of 97 in distributing their sets and included 15 total assists. They were paced by Kaitlyn Hoerner at 70-74 with seven assists.

Things get started at the service line where Ipswich was 59-73 with eight aces led by Madison Geditz at 7-9 with three aces, followed by Kulesa who was 12-14, 2. The Thunder were 44 of 51 at the line and included five aces. Hoffman went 8-10 with one of their aces and Jenisa Jacobs, eight of 10, including the other pair of aces.

Ipswich had 33 team digs, led by Madison Geditz with 12 and Olivier with nine. The Thunder responded with 42 digs paced by Jacobs with 14 and Hoerner with 11. The Tigers added one solo and 14 assisted blocks led by Lange with seven assisted and Vanesa Diaz with four blocking assists. Bieber and Mackenzie Kaiser each had a block for the NC Thunder.

The Tigers hosted Faulkton Area on Tuesday. They will play in the Potter County “Lady Battler” Tournament in Gettysburg on Saturday. Ipswich will host Mobridge-Pollock Monday, Oct. 10.
