Ipswich hosts LRC XC meet

Ipswich hosted and attended the 2022 Lake Region Conference Cross Country meet last Wednesday at Split Rock.

The Tiger varsity girls finished second as a team, bettered only by Frederick Area 17 to 23 for top honors. The boys from IHS would finish third in their varsity outcome with 21 team points. Northwestern and Frederick Area each had 12 boys team points to edge out Ipswich.

Among the girls Ella Boekelheide of Northwestern was first in 19:03.87 and Morgan Sumption of Frederick Area finished second in 19:42.17. But next was indeed a Tiger girl Gracyn Kadlec in third among the 24 participants clocked at 20:06.07. Madisyn Gellhaus wasn't that far back finishing fifth at 20:29.11.

Their third scorer that day became Aubrey DeRaad 15th in 22:03.69 followed by Ava Davis 19th in 23:22.14 and Bella Unser 20th in 25:35.49.

The JV event included Hailey Usselman sixth in 23:40.01 and there were some JH girls wearing Tiger shirts, led by Aubrey Crissman second in 13:12.79, Olivia Kadlec eighth in 15:06.35 and Darcy Yost 12th in 17:00.21. Faulkton edged Ipswich 9 to 13 for that team title, led by Rhyann Roseland first in 12:53.36.

On the varsity boys side, Lincoln Woodring of Northwestern won it all with his 16:46.96 finish, followed by his teammate Nathan Melius in second at 17:10.60. Ipswich was led by Dylan Wald in sixth at 17:51.22, Turner Thorson seventh in 17:58.27and Xavier Kadlec eighth in 18:13.96, followed by Tyler Gellhaus in 23rd at 20:29.24 and Tye Pietz 29th at 21:47.02.

Ipswich was able to enter seven runners in the boys' JH event led by Ethan Wald fourth in 12:14.79, Clayton Horst fifth in 12:29.08, Jase Stiles seventh in 12:45.31, Gavin Horst 11th at 13:49.22, Benjamin Hoyle 13th in 14:15.00, Edison Unser 17th in 15:32.46 and Jasper Opsahl 18th in 16:20.84. But Northwestern would edge Ipswich 13 to 16 for boys' JH team honors.

The Region 1B regional action will occur today, Oct. 12 in Webster starting at 1 p.m. The State B qualifiers will then head for Huron on October 22.
