Ipswich Cross Country sends four to State B in Sioux Falls

Ipswich XC Qualifiers Xavier Kadlec, Madisyn Gellhaus, Gracyn Kadlec, and Bella Henderson
Ipswich attended its high school regional cross country meet last Wednesday in Webster. The Tiger girls would individually qualify three girls for the upcoming State B in Sioux Falls later this monh and one Tiger boy Xavier Kadlec.
You need to have at least three individual runners to be eligible for team scoring purposes at the B and Ipswich will indeed have the minimum three runners to do exactly that.
They were Madisyn Gellhaus in fifth at 20:55.69, Gracyn Kadlec in ninth at 21:48.22 and Bella Henderson in 18th at 22:38. 31.
And Kadlec would place fourth among the boys in 18:25.12.
"All four of them ran personal best times at that course to qualify," explained coach Todd Thorson."The girls will score as a team (at the B) because they qualified three athletes."
Ipswich also entered two more varsity girls - Olivia Kadlec 33rd in 24:56.50 and Aubrey Crissman 35th in 25:45.15.
Ella Boekelheide of Northwestern won the girls individual event in 19:24.94 followed by Kennadee Wagner of Warner in 20:21.47. Meanwhile Frederick Area narrowly won the girls team title 26 to 26 over Northwestern. Ipswich also placed fifth as a team with its 32 points.
The boys varsity run was individually captured by Nathan Melius of Northwestern in 17:46.15 and Deubrook's Landen Johnson finished second in 18:07.41. And Deubrook was also out-scored by Northwestern 19 to 23 for the team score lead that afternoon.
Ipswich would also place fifth in the boys varsity outcome with its 54 team points. Ipswich's next boy behind Kadlec would become Ethan Wald 25th in 20:38.18. Then was Tyler Gellhaus 30th in 21:24.56. Tye Pietz finished 36th in 22:37.22. And Kadyn Weisser completed their team effort in 43rd at 26:47.28.
There will be a Welcome Home and Awards Ceremony on October 30 at 6 p.m. in the School Theatre.
The Cross Country State Championship will be held Oct. 21 in Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls. The Class B boys will run at 12:30 p.m. The Class B girls will run at 2 p.m. The awards will be given after the final race.
