NC Thunder volleyball 1-1 on the road

The NC Thunder volleyball girls were 1-1 in a pair of road appearances. They lost to powerful Warner 25-19, 25-4 and 25-7 on October 16 and bounced back to defeat Wakpala on October 17. Those scores were 25-16, 25-12 and 25-18.

In the latter, the Thunder were 79-100 in attacking the net and included 39 kills. They were led by Amree VanderVorst at 25-32 with 11 kills and Ella Batie was 11-14 with seven kills. They were able to manufacture 112 sets including 39 assists. Sydney Bertsch handled that with a 79-79 evening and included 29 assists.

They also did some damage at the serving line with a 69-74 evening that featured a dozen aces. Jenisa Jacobs was 13-13 with two aces. Billie Jo Hoffman was 9-10 with four aces and Lindsey Geier 9-9,3.

The Thunder had 60 digs led by Jacobs with 14 of them and Sydnee Malsam added 11. Batie had one block.

Versus Warner the Thunder were led by VanderVorst in attacking the net with 15 hits that included five kills. Mackenzie Kaiser was 9-10 with two kills and Batie 14-18 with three kills. They were led in setting by Bertsch at 63-67 with 10 assists. Natalie Bieber led in serves with nine of them and VanderVorst added five.

Jacobs had 14 digs and Bertsch seven.

The Thunder completed the regular season with games on Monday on the road against Northwestern and then hosting Ipswich in Roscoe on Tuesday.

The 6A Regional play will begin on Oct. 31. The pairings will be finalized after the regular season is complete. The Regional finals are Nov. 2 with the SoDak 16 games on Nov. 7.
