North Central dropped a pair of close high school volleyball matches last week to close out their regular-season schedule at 11-17. The Thunder indeed lost a 25-11, 25-13 and 25-20 decision to Northwestern last Monday and a night later went the distance against Ipswich at home in Roscoe. (The Thunder lost this one 3-2.) They did win their first two sets by identical 25-18 margins.

But Ipswich would bounce back with three straight wins to capture the match 25-12, 25-18 and a 16-14 tie-breaker. The Thunder were led by Amree Vander Vorst in hitting with 40 accurate hits including 11 kills. They were also helped by Natalie Bieber going 29-35 at the net with nine kills. They totaled 136 hits including 32 kills. Ipswich unofficially countered with 124 hits that included 47 kills, led by Marley Guthmiller at 70-77 with 24 kills.

The Thunder were a perfect 182 in sets that included 31 assists, led by Sydney Bertsch at 31-31 with 25 assists. Ipswich was 119-123 in setting with 45 assists, paced by Josie Knutson at 109 sets that included 37 assists.

The NC servers finished 78-94 with 12 aces and were paced by VanderVorst at 16-17 with three aces and Bieber was 16-19 with four aces. Ipswich landed 88 serves that included 12 aces. Guthmiller featured 21 serves that included five aces.

The Thunder were able to come away with 90 digs led by Jenisa Jacobs with 29 of them and VanderVorst with 20. Ipswich countered with Kathryn Kilber's 27 digs. Their team also totaled 90 digs. The Thunder had three blocks by Ella Batie and one by Bieber. Ipswich also totaled four blocks.

Versus Northwestern the Thunder were 88-102 at the net and included 21 kills. VanderVorst went 22-27 with six kills and Billie Jo Hoffman added a 18-19 evening that featured five kills. Batie also finished with 14 hits including five kills.

The NC Thunder were 119-121 in setting all that up and included 18 assists. Bertsch was a perfect 94-94 with 18 assists. There were five service aces by the Thunder who finished an overall 33-46 at the line. VanderVorst was 9-11 there with four of those aces. And Hoffman featured the other ace while distributing 10 accurate serves.

The Thunder had 54 digs paced by Hoffman with 14 and Jacobs with 12 of them. Bieber added two blocks and Batie one block.

Northwestern's statistics weren't available as of the newspaper deadline.
