Tigers split against H-T Patriots

Ipswich split a varsity twinbill in non-conference Saturday road action vs. Hitchcook-Tulare. The boys indeed would salvage a 57-48 win after the Tiger girls had dropped a 53-40 outcome.

Now for the boys! The Tiger boys would be led by Trevor Heinz with a double-double — 24 points and 10 rebounds. He featured 13 huge points down the stretch and totaled three treys. Jace Konsor added 15 points also with a trio of treys. And Chet Peterson became their third double-figure scorer with 11 points and 11 rebounds —also a double-double evening.

Kyle Hettich added five points with his team's remaining trey and Xavier Kadlec added two points with 10 rebounds for a busy evening.

The Tigers led 15-10 after the first quarter then IHS had a 4-point lead at halftime (26-22). The hosts took the lead in the third quarter, 36-39 but the Tigers came back to get the win 57-48.

The Patriots were led by Patrick Maynard's 10 points and five more players scored.

Ipswich utilized a 35-29 rebounding edge and only had 18 turnovers while HT would sustain 23. Twelve of them were Tiger steals.

GIRLS

The Tiger girls would sustain that 53-40 loss. Their host Patriot opponents would lead 16-12 after a quarter and stretched that to 29-23 at intermission. They would then increase their advantage to 44-29 with a quarter to play.

Unofficially the Tiger girls would be led by Gabby Wald with 18 points that included three treys. Kaylin Onken added seven points and Marley Guthmiller was next with six points. Tristan Geditz scored five points that featured one trey and Brianna Geditz and Anna Nierman each contributed two points.

The hosts were paced by Katelyn Schroeder with 20 points and Cambree Hoekman added 16 points. Four more players scored.

Hitchcock-Tulare made six treys and 18 total floor shots. They also got 11 free throws. Ipswich ended up with 15 total baskets that included four treys and added six free throws.

One bright spot for the Ipswich girls would be their 28-24 rebounding edge led by Tristan Geditz with five of them. But HT only sustained six turnovers and Ipswich, 13. Seven of those were steals led by Wald's three.

The Tigers hosted a doubleheader Tuesday against North Central. The IHS boys will play Langford Area on the road Thursday, then the girls will host the Langford Area team on Friday. The girls and boys will travel to Webster for a doubleheader on Saturday. The Tigers will host a doubleheader vs. Waubay/Summit on Tuesday, Dec. 19.
