Boys get win

Ipswich claimed a Lake Region Conference varsity boys basketball win on Thursday, Jan. 14 in Langford. The final score turned out to be 60-28.

Ipswich featured a pair of double-figure scorers that evening. They were Jace Konsor with 20 points and Trevor Heinz with 19 points. Konsor included four treys and Heinz one trey. Then Chet Peterson and Kyle Hettich each added eight points, while Luke Waltman added three points with a trey. Hettich would include a trey. Then Xavier Kadlec rounded out their scoring with two points.

The hosts were led by Kalen Godel with 10 points. Caleb Mertz, Dylan Harmon and Jacob Samson each contributed six points and Samson's were a pair of treys.

Ipswich had led 25-12 after a quarter and increased that to 40-23 at halftime. The visiting Tigers would then go ahead 51-23 with a quarter to play in this Battle of the Big Cats.

Ipswich totaled 22 floor shots including their seven treys and shot 9-18 at the free throw stripe. The hosts countered with 13 accurate baskets including those two treys and were scoreless at the free throw lines.

The Tigers were led in rebounding by Peterson with eight boards and Kadlec with seven of them. (The Lions captured 18 rebounds.) Meanwhile Ipswich only had nine turnovers and Langford, 19 miscues, of which seven were Peterson steals.

Girls get win

Ipswich captured a 62-53 girls varsity high school victory over Langford Area last Friday in the Tiger Den and it was a LRC league win as well.

The Tigers threatened to blow the game wide open, but Langford wasn't quite ready to board its bus for the trip home. The Lions staged a late rally and closed to within five points late in the contest but the clock became the Tigers ally thanks to some timely free throw shooting.

A big reason for the win would be Gabby Wald with a game-high 28 points that featured a quartet of treys. Next would be Kaylin Onken with 10 points. Marley Guthmiller was able to add nine points. And Tristan Geditz, Brianna Geditz and Anna Nierman all scored four points. Reaghan Bowers contributed two points as did Karlie Gohl. And Natalie Crissman added a free throw.

The visiting team totaled six scorers led by Megan Gustafson's 14 points. Tawnee Nelson was also in double figures with 13 counters as was Alexandria Darling with 11 points.

Ipswich had led 19-14 after a quarter and then led 29-22 at intermission. Then the Tigers out scored the Lions 11-5 in the third quarter.

The Tigers made 20 field goals including their four treys and added 18 free throws. The Lions countered with 19 accurate floor shots that included their two treys and 13 free throws.

Ipswich collected 48 rebounds led by Onken and Tristan Geditz with nine rebounds apiece. The Lions claimed 27 rebounds paced by Megan Gustafson's six. They sustained 27 turnovers and Ipswich had 28 miscues, so that was quite comparable.
