IHS Tigers swept by Rustlers

February 7, 2024

Ipswich traveled to Miller for a girls/boys twinbill last Thursday and sustained a pair of non-conference varsity defeats.

The Tiger girls would drop a 38-29 decision and the boys sustained a 75-59 setback.

In that girls game the Tigers would trail 6-2, 14-12 and 25-22 at the respective quarter endings. Miller would then  own a 13-7 final quarter scoring edge in what turned out to be quite a defensive struggle.

The hosts were led by J. Palmer's 10 points  and seven more Rustlers would score at least one point. Ipswich countered with eight points from Marley Guthmiller, followed by seven points by Brianna Geditz. Kaylin Onken added five points and Anna Nierman four points. Rylee Kleffman got three points on a trey and Tristan Geditz two points.

Ipswich was 10-40 in field goals including that trey and was 8-10 in free throw tries. The Rustlers were able to make 14 baskets in 52 attempts and included 10 free throws in 25 tries.

The Tigers got 32 rebounds led by Tristan Geditz with 10 of them. But Miller claimed 41 rebounds.

Ipswich had 31 turnovers, of which 17 were Miller steals. The Rustler totaled 25 turnovers that included 17 Tiger steals.

Now for the boys. The Tigers and Miller tied at 16-16 after a quarter and Ipswich then led 42-36 at intermission. But this sort of turned to be a tale of the two halves. That's because the hosts would obtain a 54-47 lead with a quarter to play and stretched their lead to 16 points at the final buzzer.

The Rustlers obtained 24 points by Alex Schumacher and 23 points from Isaac Hunter. And Derek Brueggeman would also get into double figures with his 13 points. Only two additional Rustlers would enter their scorebook.

Miller totaled 29 floor shots including 10 treys. They added a 7-8 free throw evening.

Ipswich responded with a game high 27 points by Jace Konsor that included seven treys. Trevor Heinz was next with 13 points including two treys and six assists. Kyle Hettich and Tucker Kadlec each scored six points while Xavier Kadlec would contribute five points. Chet Peterson rounded out their scoring with two free throws.

Ipswich netted 22 total baskets including its treys and finished 6-10 in its free throw opportunities.

The Tigers had 26 rebounds led by Xavier Kadlec with eight boards. But the Rustlers countered with 29 rebounds led by Hunter with 15 of them for an impressive double-double.

Ipswich only had six turnovers and Miller eight in a well-played floor game by both schools. Peterson and Hettich each had two steals that evening.

The boys and girls were scheduled to play a doubleheader at home vs. Aberdeen Christian on Tuesday. The girls travel to Wilmot on Feb. 8. Then IHS hosts a doubleheader on Friday vs. Sunshine Bible Academy. The Ipswich boys JV team plays the SBA varsity boys at 6:30 p.m. Then the varsity girls meet. The IHS girls play Highmore-Harrold on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at Highmore.
