    The Ipswich City Council appointed a new mayor during their Council meeting on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. The meeting opened with ongoing business. Council president Mike Steen presided in the absence of Mayor LeRoy Kilber, who had resigned earlier. Council member Mike Heinz made a motion to appoint Mike Steen as mayor. The council voted 4-1 in favor, with David Coisman voting no. The council adjourned that section of the meeting and continued with the council re-organization.     The Edmunds Central FFA Chapter traveled to Brookings for the 96th State FFA Convention April 18-20. ECFFA had two individuals competing in contests, Kelsey Lehr and Eden Weiland. Grant Fischer was a state degree recipient and two delegates represented the chapter at the business meeting, Theo Haerter and Anthony Miller.     Local golfers competed in the James Valley Christian Invitational Golf Meet held at Broadland Creek Golf Course (Huron) on Tuesday, May 7. The Edmunds Central golfers were first with 254 points.     The Ipswich track and field team competed in a windy Lake Region Conference in Ipswich on Tuesday, May 7. The Ipswich boys won the LRC meet with 175.5 points. Warner was second, 114.5. The IHS girls were second right behind Warner, 159.5 - 156. North Central was third in both divisions. Both Warner teams won the middle school divisions.
