    The Hosmer Volunteer Fire and Rescue hosted a successful Poker Run and Burger Fry on Saturday, July 29. They had 182 entries this year. Adjustments were made, thanks to all the players for their patience. Poker Run winners were Gary Blocker, first with a 3-Q/2-J Full House; Carol Eisenbeisz, second with a Full House (3-9's/2-7's); and John Meuwissen, third with a Full House (3-8's/2-J's).   • DTOM 22/0 provides safe place for veterans

    Roscoe American Legion and Auxiliary members went to Warner on July 25 to tour DTOM 22/0 Veterans Ranch. DTOM stands for "Don't Tread on Me." The 22 stands for the recognized average of 22 Veterans per day dying from suicide. The 0 represents their goal. The mission of the DTOM 22/0 Foundation and Veterans Ranch is to provide a safe place for healing and recovery for military service members, veterans, and their families activities, while helping them learn to live again with purpose.   • Storybook Land Theatre On Tour cast, looking for "The Perfect Dog" next week

    The Storybook Land Theatre On Tour cast will present “The Perfect Dog” on Wednesday, Aug 9 at 10:30 a.m. in the Ipswich Bandshell on Main Street. The eight young actors and their director will search for dogs, inspired by the book “The Perfect Dog” by John O’Hurley. “The search is gonna be ruff!” Music and lyrics were written by David Abbinanti with the book by Jill Abbinanti.   • Feeding South Dakota food pantry comes to county next week

    The Feeding South Dakota Mobile Food Pantry will return to Edmunds County soon. The Food Pantry will be in Ipswich Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Edmunds County 4-H Building. The Food Pantry will be in Bowdle on Friday, Aug. 11 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Proxy pickups are allowed. Complete the SD Feeding form and give it to your proxy to bring with to the food distribution.     The Traveling Lantern theatre group presented "Rhonda Appleseed & the Tree That Learned How to Speak" on July 28 in the Ipswich Bandshell. Rhonda, standing on the stage in the photo, and her father visited a state park. Her father also portrayed other characters, including this bird watcher. He was looking for a volunteer to be a bird. That city will be hosting the annual 4-H Achievement Days starting on Wednesday at the 4H grounds.     The North Central Area (NCA) Thunder made an appearance and earned third place in the 10U State Slow Pitch Softball Tournament in Sioux Falls on July 22 and 23. They started off the tournament on Saturday with a big win of 11-0 against Faini from Sioux Falls. Next, they faced the Fireflies from Watertown and won that game 12-6.     The NCA 14U Thunder competed in the Girl's Slowpitch State Softball tournament held July 22-23 at Sherman Park in Sioux Falls. The 14U NCA Thunder took on Redfield first on Saturday and won with a score of 17-7. They next met Absolute Agronomy of Huron and defeated them 15-5. Their final game on Saturday they faced the Dakota Thunder out of Watertown and were defeated 4-11. Sunday they started to work their way through the loser bracket facing Redfield again.     The Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern Jr. Legion baseball team has earned a trip to the South Dakota 2023 Class "B" Junior American Legion Baseball State Championship Tournament that will be held at the Lennox Baseball Stadium, Lennox, Friday, August 4 - 6, 2023.     The Edmunds Central, Eureka and Bowdle School Boards voted to suspend varsity football play this fall for North Central athletes. The decision was based on projected student participation numbers. They plan to play a JV schedule this fall.
